AQE moves to the next stage with new research

Our survey seeks to hear the views of economics students at all education levels.

Our survey which sought to hear the views of economics students from across education level from GCSEs to recently graduated postgraduates has just closed. We are now one step closer to creating a membership offering and membership body that really meets the needs and aspirations of current and future economics undergraduates.

We received a considerable number of responses and support from across economics and higher education in promoting to survey to ensure we heard from a wide range of economics students.

  • Initial responses suggest students have a strong desire to make a positive difference in the world and that they are looking for more from their courses in to prepare them to be able to do that.
  • As we have not yet undertaken a thorough analysis the picture is currently incomplete.
  • However general themes coming through suggest an interest in a broader economics curriculum and that an economics membership body should support the discipline to provide courses that equip students for the complexity of our present and future world.

As well as supporting with the strengthening of the curriculum to meet students’ needs and aspirations, AQE will also provide support to economics students to help them thrive on their courses and as they transition to careers. Initial asks coming out of the survey suggest benefits to students and graduates should focus on career advice and progression including networking, conferences and mentoring and access to research, journals and discounts.

We are now at the exciting stage of diving deep to our analysis and really digging into what matters to students. We can’t wait to share what we find.
